Get started with the North Valley Week of Giving

Step 1: Eligibility

The North Valley Week of Giving is open to all nonprofit public charities operating in Butte, Tehama, Colusa and Glenn counties, as well as any fund of North Valley Community Foundation.

Step 2: Register before 4 p.m. on November 15th

For all eligible participants, registration is easy! Go to and complete the application. By completing the application, you will:

  • Provide our Finance Team the information it needs to establish your North Valley Week of Giving account
  • Give our Marketing Team information to be used to promote your participation
  • Create your online donation page where you will send all of your donors
  • Read and agree to the Terms of Agreement for the North Valley Week of Giving
    • Terms of Agreement are also included at the end of this packet

Deadline to register is November 15th

Step 3: Get ready!

Once you are registered, it is time to let your donors and audience know where, when, how, and (most importantly) why to give to your North Valley Week of Giving Campaign. This is an opportunity to make sure that your stakeholders know that the event is happening, and more importantly it gives you time to tell your story and help them understand why they should give to your campaign and how you will use their generously donated dollars.

This handbook contains marketing ideas and goals, along with messaging requirements and suggestions. As a participant, we ask that you use the proper name (North Valley Week of Giving) in all references and hashtags on social media to promote the full-scale event. Beyond that, our resources are provided freely to help you craft a message to your audience to get them engaged and ready to give when the event starts on November 26th!

We will make sure that the region knows that the North Valley Week of Giving is happening, you make sure that they know you are participating and why!

Step 4: The Week of Giving begins!

Once the North Valley Week of Giving begins, it becomes even more important to have your audience engaged. This is the point where you can start directly asking for donations. The North Valley Community Foundation will be sharing Week of Giving content all week. Feel free to share our content and create your own!

The goal of this program is to provide opportunities for collaboration and cooperation in our regional nonprofit sector.  To make things easier, you can scroll through #NVWeekOfGiving on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and share content from us and other participants. Also feel free to include #GivingTuesday on Tuesday of that week to engage with the larger national event.

Step 5: After the event

The North Valley Week of Giving will conclude at 5 p.m. on December 3rd. Within one month of the end of the event, the NVCF Finance Office will distribute all of the money raised, minus transaction fees, to each participant and the Week of Giving accounts will be inactivated. No funds can be received into these accounts after 5 p.m. on December 3rd.

Donor lists will also be available to each participant fund or organization. We recommend that you take the time to send each of your donors a thank you letter for giving during the event. In fact, we have created a template that you can use to make it even easier! Feel free to adjust the wording in the template to match your communicative style, but please leave the logo in place.

This is also a good time to let the community know how you did! We have also created a sample press release that you may use to make it easy to let news organizations know how much you raised and how it helps your mission.

Finally, there will be a post-event survey that we will ask you to fill out. We plan to continue conducting the North Valley Week of Giving each year, and we want to do everything we can to make it even better next year! Again, feel free to adjust the wording in the template to match your style, but please leave the logo in place.

If you are a nonprofit participant and you liked receiving donations online through our accounting system, you can retain our year-round online giving services by opening a fund at NVCF! If you are interested in exploring this option, please visit to get started.
